NFL Super Bowls: The Community hosted The New York Giants in 2008 for Super Bowl XLII and the New England Patriots in 2015 for Super Bowl XLIX. As members of the Phoenix Area CORE Planning Group the Gila River Incident Management Team (IMT) met and planned for over a year for each of these events. Since Super Bowl XLII the NFL has changed how Super Bowl host cities should organize, plan and operate as demonstrated by the Phoenix Area Core Planning Group. We helped set the standard that is currently being used across the country.
